The Ellington Volunteer Fire Department operates the following equipment out of two facilities. One station at 29 Main Street (Station 43) and another on Nutmeg Drive.

Below is a description of each piece of apparatus. Included are station location, radio designation, make and model, number of personnel, primary purpose and highlighted equipment carried.


RESCUE 143
2001 Pierce Quantum Heavy Rescue - Carries 6, Located at Station 43

Primary purpose - Rescue operations (heavy and technical), hazardous materials response, command post, emergency scene power & lighting, mobile breathing air and primary fire support.

Equipment

Rescue 143Rescue: Thermal Imaging Camera (ISG K90) with digital receiver and monitor, Hurst Rescue tool with multiple attachments(spreaders, cutters and two rams with extensions) high and low pressure air bags, extensive cribbing supply, large assortment of hand, power, pneumatic and electric rescue and cutting tools, 12,000 pound electric winch, confined space and technical rescue supplies including harnesses, misc. associated rigging supplies, SKED stretcher, rescue helmets and Kernmantle rope, EMS supplies including trauma kits, O2 units, burn kit, backboards, stokes and mass casualty supplies.

Mobil Breathing Air: 6-bottle 4500' cascade system, 2-bottle defragmentation fill station, 100' air supply line, 6 SCBA, 14 spare bottles

Power & Lighting: 30kw PTO driven generator, 35' 6000 watt light tower, 2 200' reels and an additional 200' of extension cord, 4 portable and 8 fixed flood lights, portable generator light, other misc. lighting and electrical equipment

HazMat Response: Several metering/detection units (combustible, O2, CO, hydrogen sulfide, radiation, temperature, ammonia), absorbents, patching equipment, decontamination supplies, chemical protective clothing, information library

Command Post: Command post supplies, vests, camera equipment, information library, phones, radios and communications equipment

Fire Support: 3 gas powered saws (able to cut masonry, concrete, metal, wood, and roofing), 8' awning and rehabilitation supplies, salvage equipment, Helicopter LZ equipment, traffic control supplies, and many other pieces or rescue, forcible entry and ventilation equipment.

Engine Tank 143 1997 Pierce Quantum Pumper - Seats 8, Located at Station 43

Primary purpose - Structural and non-structural fire suppression, 1st out all structural fires and hazmat responses.

Primary purpose - Structural and non-structural fire suppression, 1st out hydrant area

1500' 5" supply hose, 500' 3" supply hose
6 preconnected attack lines and prepiped deck gun
Hurst Combination Rescue Tool
4.5 kw generator + 18,000 cfm blower

1975 American LaFrance Pumper - Seats 5, Located at Station 43

Primary purpose - Structural and non structural fire suppression, 2nd out pumper non hydrant areas

1000 GPM American LaFrance Pump, 1000 gallon water tank
1500' 4" supply hose, 500' 3" supply hose, 450' 2 1/2" hose
5 preconnected attack lines and prepiped deck gun
3.2 kw generator, 4 SCBA, compliment of NFPA 1901 equipment +

 


Tanker143TANKER 143
2007 Kenworth/U. S. Tanker - Seats 2, Located at Station 43

Primary purpose - Water supply for non hydrant areas.

Equipment

1500 GPM Waterous Pump, 3000 gallons water tank with quick dump capability,
3500 gallon portable tank, 300’ 5” supply hose, 3 preconnected attack lines and a prepiped deck gun,
2 SCBA and water supply equipment.

 


Forestry 143FORESTRY 143
1986 HMMWV "Humvee" Forestry 4X4 - Seats 2, Located at Station 43

Primary purpose - Forest, wildland and brush fires

Equipment

250 GPM Hale Pump, 200 gallon water tank
600' 1 1/2" hose, 2 preconnected attack lines
8 backpack pumps, assorted forestry hose, hand tools and saws
Rescue rope, medical supplies, Stokes basket

 


Service 143FORESTRY 243
1996 GMC 1 ton Pick-up 4X4 - Seats 3, Located at Station 43

Primary purpose - Wildland fires, utility, traffic and scene control.

Equipment

Forest fighting hand tools, semi-automatic external defibrillator, 100' winch, misc. tools & EMS supplies

 

 


SERVICE 143
Rescue 2432000 GMC SLE 3/4 ton crew cab Pick-up 4X4 - Seats 6, Located at Station 43

Primary purpose - 1st due EMS vehicle, Personnel transport

Equipment

Semi-Automatic External Defibrillator, misc. tools & EMS supplies


 


Service 243SERVICE 243
1993 FORD E 150 Van - Seats 2, Located at Station 43

Primary purpose - Utility, traffic/scene control, fire prevention activities.

Equipment

Fire extinguishers, traffic control equipment, first aid equipment


 

 


Rescue 343SPECIAL HAZARDS 143 / HAZ MAT 32
2007 Ford F-550 4x4 Crew cab - Seats 5, Location at Station 243

Primary purpose - 1st due EMS vehicle, Hazardous Materials response vehicle, tow vehicle for Special Hazards trailer. Support vehicle for Capitol Region Hazardous Material Response Team.

Equipment

Extensive assortment of hazardous material metering and detection equipment. Communications equipment including State Tactical on Scene Communications System (STOCS), Semi-Automatic External Defibrillator, misc. tools and EMS supplies.

 


GatorGATOR & TRAILER
John Deere Gator, Located at Station 243

Primary purpose - Move equipment and supplies in off road conditions not accessible to conventional apparatus. Transportation of an injured person from a remote area.

 

 

 


MARINE RESCUE TRAILER
1994 14' American Eagle Enclosed Trailer, towed behind a service vehicle, Located at Station 43

Marine TrailerPrimary purpose - Water and ice rescue operations, Tolland County Dive Team Support

Equipment

12 1/2' inflatable boat, 25 hp mercury engine
Switlick water rescue sled, 7 PFDs, multiple rescue rope bags, slings and rigging supplies
3 cold water rescue suits with crampons and ice picks
rescue diver support equipment, including SCUBA gear and spare bottles
Other assorted marine rescue equipment and lights.




SPECIAL HAZARDS -HAZ MAT TRAILER 143
Marine Trailer2005 Trailer, Located at Station 243

Primary purpose - Regional Hazardous Materials Team response and support.

Equipment

FEMA Type 1 cache of technician level hazardous materials response equipment. Many types and levels of chemical protective clothing, breathing apparatus, meters, detection equipment, product control, containment supplies, and decontamination equipment.
